It is without a doubt that many people
especially in the city of excellence are awaiting the outcome of the All
Progressive Congress (APC) primaries scheduled to hold tomorrow Thursday the 4th
of December 2014, that will produce the party’s flagbearer for the February
2015 general election.
The concerned are aware that Lagos is a
beautiful bride that has many suitors who are ready to do anything to take her
home. But with the way things are at the moment, the primaries to push out who
will contest with the opposition for race
for the Alausa Ikeja seat of Lagos government may not take place after all.
Just hours to the judgment day, there is
palpable fear and tension within both the aspirants and the leadership of the
party over what could happen tomorrow. Though, the aspirants have written to
the national leadership of the party, insisting on the adoption of direct
primary to pick a candidate for the 2015 election, but we gathered
authouritatively the the national leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stuck
his ground that his project “Ambode” must be the law..
The
aspirants, who signed the letter that pointed out that the indirect primary was
at variance with the electoral act include Dr Leke Pitan, Dr Femi Hamzat,
Senator Ganiyu Solomon, Hon Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Dr Tola Kasali, Mr Tokunbo Wahab
and Mr Olasupo Shasore among others.
According
to them, the party’s constitution states that the local governments shall be
defined as listed in the 1999 Nigerian Constitution which, for Lagos State, is
listed as 20 local governments.
They
expressed concern that the conceived indirect primaries (as presently
constituted) could lead to agitation, tension and litigation and may even
ultimately deprive the party from presenting a valid candidate for the general
election in February 2015.
To avert
imminent crisis in the party, they recommended that the party leadership
immediately review the indirect primaries scheduled to commence December 2 and
particularly on December 4, 2014 – with a view to its suspension.
Cityrovers exclusively gathered that already some of the
aspirants have contracted senior advocates to push home their demand in case
Asiwaju insist on playing against the set rule
